Jupiter:
The largest planet in the Solar System
This is a project using watercolour with silver foil and tissue paper as textures.
It can be made in an hour session.
Even though this looks like a simple painting to do it does take specific painting techniques to make this work.

Jupiter can be made on A3 white card and 8 steps using watercolour. Watercolour creates nice swirl effects that look like the textures that we see on Jupiter.
To start with find a large mixing bowl to create a large circle that will fill much of the space on an A3 piece of white card. Card will absorb water so card is best.
Step 1:
Draw a circle and use a paint brush to wet the area in the circle with a very light beige colour. This is the background tone foe Jupiter.
Step 2:
Draw several lines with pencil across the circle and colour in the top and middle parts with a darker tone of beige and orange.
Step 3:
Paint darker tones of orange across the planet turning the paint brush and not going over the same part over again, as this will overwork the paint, and will cause bubbling of the paper on the surface.
Step 4:
Paint across the planet using orange and beige colour and turn and twist the brush to make swirly strokes of colour like that on Jupiter.
Step 5:
Paint in the storm spot with bright orange that Jupiter is so well known for.
Step 6:
Begin the background, by wetting the area all around the planet on the outerside. use dark purple, blue and black and let the colour diffuse through the wet area.
Step 7: keep adding dark purple, blue and black to the background.
Step 8:
Work on completing the back ground, then add textures such as silver foil for the light rings across the planet and the storm spot.
Complete:
Jupiter as the largest planet in our Solar System, a textural planet with a storm spot that I’ve put tissue paper on it for extra texture. This is the Great Red Spot that’s an enormous storm that’s been raging on Jupiter for a long time.
