How to make this mosaic of the Monarch of the Glen in 12 steps:
You can use cut colour card or raised mosaic pieces, and it can be on card, board or hard surface.
Step 1:
Print these templates out for easy assembly of the composition. Cut the shapes out.
Step 2: Find colour card and choose which colour suits the shapes cut and cut the colour card. Assemble the colour shapes into this composition:
Take colour card and cut squares and triangles for the mosaic pieces, or used raised mosaics shapes.
Step 3:
Once each shape has been cut out of the printed template, choose the colour that would best suit your shape for the mosaic. You can choose similar colours I chose.
Cut the colour shapes and glue into position:
Step 4:
Glue the back of the shaped card.
Step 6;
Place each piece where you want them to go in the composition:
Step 7:
Place the stag to the right:
Step 8:
Place the rocks by the stag:
Step 9:
Place the yellow card on the lower part of the mosaic:
Step 10:
Build up the border with alternate colours:
Step 11:
Draw on or place the mosaic pieces on the colour card. The pieces can be of different colours against the background colours for contrast:

Normally a mosaic can be made by drawing out your composition then filling in the areas with the mosaic pieces that fit together with combinations of tones and colours, using patterns as well.
This is a different approach, to help you make you composition, and use different colours for various areas of the picture. Usually the background for a mosaic is the same colour or tone throughout the image for consistency, so this image is a different take on a mosaic theme.
The mosaic here is made using foam pieces.
