YouTube video: 4.30mins
How to make your mosaic in 8 steps:
Step 1:
Draw out an outline like this on an A3 piece of cartridge paper or card.
Step 2:
Draw on a few shapes that are circles & squares in the central rectangle. Then triangles in the spaces outside the rectangle.
Chicken fried rice is the food dish here.
Step 3:
Cut a range of round shapes out of foam sheets on green and yellow, then red corrugated card and pink long strips out of foam sheets. Then square foam pieces.
Step 4:
Key to the chicken fried rice:
Yellow circle foam sheet- sweetcorn
Green circle foam sheet - peas
Red circle corrugated card - pepper
Brown square foam sheet - chicken chunk
Pink oblong foam sheet - grain of rice
Step 5:
Black triangles of foam sheet used for the packet- triangle are best to show the pattern of plastic as its vacuum condensed. The triangles shows the folds of the plastic but this also gives a pattern around the random pieces of food, showing a contrast on shape and form.
Step 6:
Place the square purple corrugated shapes in the background and then add the shapes of planets, stars and moon, using the same yellow colour used as the sweetcorn pieces. The planets and stars are like sweetcorn in space!
Step 7:
Final parts - the lettering and backgrounds. Yellow background and black letters with colour creators that look like spots of red pepper and peas.
Step 8:
Space food, with green letters against a yellow and red background foam sheet background. The contrast of a secondary colour thats organic and primary background colours - yellow and red. Use goggle eyes and a yellow sweetcorn nose and a yellow mouth to complete the image.
